Mary's Pick

“You got to love this groundcover that takes lots of NEGLECT, fills in fast and requires virtually NO maintenance.

Give thought where you plant Plumbago. This weed-suppressing low growing carpet spreads by rhizomes (running roots as we say) for that quick fill where you need it the most.

In the spring - they are slow to wake up (and yes, they look like sticks in the ground) so give them time, it will be worth it!

Blue brilliant flowers for up to 12 weeks provides the perfect groundcover around KnockOut Roses and Drought-Proof Sedums!"

About Plumbago

Plumbago or Ceratostigma plumbaginoides is a fast growing ground cover of immense beauty and late season interest. Plumbago is durable and long lived requiring very little maintenance. Plumbago dies back in the fall with the exception of southern regions (Zone 8 and 9). It is also slow to emerge in the spring. Once plumbago does finally break dormancy, it grows quickly.

This perennial groundcover is deciduous and grows up to 12 inches tall. It has glossy green leaves on long trailing stems bearing intense gentian-blue flowers. The 3/4 inch flowers begin to bloom in mid to late summer and continue until frost. Late in the season the foliage turns a eye-catching bronze after the first frost.
