About Creeping Phlox
Phlox subulata named in Latin for its awl-shaped leaves is commonly called creeping phlox, mountain phlox, moss phlox moss pink ground pink.
A low growing, mat forming mosslike semiwoody ground cover will reach 4-6 inches tall and spreads to 2 feet across.
Phlox subulata hails from sandy woodlands of New York to North Carolina and is known for its outstanding spring floral display. Loose clusters of fragrant, tubular flowers (to 3/4 inch wide) bloom in April-May.
Best flowering is in full sun. In hot summers of the deep south, some dappled sun would be best. Highly adaptable to a wide range of soils from acid to alkaline. Plants must have good drainage.
