Heuchera Forever Purple Description

Heuchera Forever Purple is an All Star performer as a shade plant in the garden.  Ultra purple glossy leaves have fluted edges along with textile patterned foliage.  The rich color & texture is eye-catching in any setting.

Forever Purple Coral Bells is shade plant groundcover that is superior to other varieties with its color-fast foliage, vigorous crowning habit, along with a greater tolerance of sun exposure.

Forever Purple forms an attractive mound growing 12" high and 22" wide.  Evergreen in warmer climates, you'll get to enjoy 4 season of gardening interest.  Ideal for planting in the front of the shade garden border, along walkways, pathways, or mixed container planting.

Foliage color is one of the secrets to long lasting color in the shade garden.  Heucheras provide up to 3 seasons of interest while withstanding the rigors of heat & humidity in the summer garden.  This shade loving groundcover needs little maintenance or work on your part, and will live for many years as long as you provide good drainage.

In late spring, slender stems of purple pink flowers rise up to 12", attracting hummingbirds and butterflies.

Heucheras are a low maintenance groundcover that thrive in moist, well-drained soil. They are not troubled by pests or diseases. Forever Purple is ideal for those perennial beds that get both sun and shade.

Stunning in combination planters, mixed beds, or planted in masses. This eye-catching foliage color is stunning with spring flowering Violas, Hellebores, yellow Hostas, or Hydrangeas.

Special Features: Butterfly Lovers, Color Change, Deer Resistant, Drought Tolerant, Easy Care, Fall Color, Foliage Interest, Hummingbird Lovers, Multi-season Interest

PLANTING GUIDE

Soil: Coral bells like a neutral to slightly acid soil pH, somewhere between 6.0 and 7.0. Good drainage is a must, especially in shaded areas. They do well in soil where some organic matter has been added.
Light: As a general rule, Heucheras do well in shade, but for the highly colored varieties, some morning sun will bring out more intense coloring. The color can wash out in full sun, and too much heat and light can cause the leaves to scorch.
Water: Average -- better too dry than too wet when established. Keep the soil evenly moist, but not consistently wet to prevent root rot. To reduce the risk of foliar disease, Heuchera require watering during the early morning so any excess moisture can evaporate before evening. Drip irrigation effectively delivers moisture directly to the soil, further reducing the plant's vulnerability to disease.
Spacing: 1.5 ft
Fertilizing: Use good quality compost, or well aged livestock manure, or a combination of the two. Apply a few pounds for each plant, each year or two. On poor soils, top dress every year, or every other year on moderate quality soils. Spreading a 2-inch layer of mulch over the soil surrounding Heuchera helps insulate the soil during winter, and improve moisture retention. About 3 inches of space between the plant's crown and the mulch allows air circulation, which prevents rotting and disease. Replenishing the mulch throughout the year ensures proper winter protection and hinders the establishment of competitive weeds.  Heuchera does not require fertilization during the fall or winter months.
Winterizing: Winter mulching will prevent the freezing and thawing that can heave plants roots.
Maintenance & Pruning: Cut back the entire flower stalk after flowering to put the plants energy into growing more leaves.  Divide Coral bells every 3-5 years to keep them from dying out in the center.

WOW!  I just got my plants and they arrived in picture perfect shape.  Your packing system is truly inspired.  Every plant came in still moist and not a bruise on a leaf.  I doubt my local garden centers could provide plants this healthy - assuming they even carried these varieties of Heuchera. I am very impressed and I’ve passed on your name with my highest recommendation to family and friends.  Excellent work to you and your whole crew at Great Garden Plants.  I’ll be back.
