More Information

Description 'Sweet Sandia' coneflower (Echinacea hybrid) may be our new favorite perennial for summer! Boasting large blooms with coloring that's reminiscent of watermelon, we can't wait to add this unique coneflower to our sunny flowerbeds. While its habit is compact, you won't be without plenty of blooms for both you and pollinators to enjoy! You'll enjoy these lime green and pink flowers from summer to fall without much work from you. This easy-care perennial doesn't need much to be happy, and deer tend to stay away. Mix it in with other coneflowers for a colorful display or add it to the front of your flowerbed and let it steal the show all season long. However you use 'Sweet Sandia,' it's sure to stand out. Details Botanical name: Echinacea hybrid ‘Sweet Sandia’
Patent #: USPPAF
Common name: Coneflower, echinacea
Zone: 4 – 9
Sun exposure: Sun (6+ hours sun)
Height x width: 19 - 24" x 16″
Flower color: Lime green with punch pink centers
Foliage color: Green
Season of Interest: Summer-fall
Bloom time: Summer, fall
Features: Rare & unusual, native, heat tolerant, dry soils, drought tolerant, deer resistant, best for beginners
Uses: Border, cottage gardening, massing, naturalizing, pollinator specimen, wildflower
How To Grow Soil: Any well-drained soil will do.
Light: Full sun. Plant them in a spot that gets at least 6 hours of full sun a day. If planted in too much shade, plants may flop or strain to reach the sun.
Water: Average. Water regularly the first season to encourage good root growth. Though coneflowers handle heat and dry conditions well once established, they appreciate regular watering and flower more if they are not stressed.
Spacing: 16 – 22 inches
Fertilizing: Little needed. Over-fertilizing will cause spindly growth, so once in the spring with a granular garden fertilizer is more than sufficient.
Winterizing: Avoid damp spots. Do not heap mulching over crowns in winter, as this can cause rot. Leave the foliage and old flowers standing for winter (birds enjoy the seed heads), then trim back or remove spent foliage in early spring before new growth emerges.
Maintenance & Pruning: Once planted, they are best left alone, as they do not transplant well. Deadheading (snipping off the spent blooms) is not necessary but does increase new flower production.

Small plant /Dying

I've emailed them. I ordered two plants. Super small dont waste your money. One is ok the other one is dying with brown leaves.
They told me it looks like I over watered it by the look of the ground .Lol ! No! I just watered it before I took a picture. Explain to me why the other one next to it is doing ok, but that one is brown and dying? I'm so disappointed..

Hi! I apologize for any inconvenience, I just reviewed your order and it looks like you were refunded for the bad plant. You should see the refund in 5-7 business days.

Exceeded expectations

Planted these Spring of 2022 - 6 plants, great root system, normal quart size. This is them a year and a few months later. Excellent. The flower is a really cool combination of color on sturdy stems. Pollinators adore them.
I am a big fan of GGP - of all the plants I have received (which is a lot) VERY few haven’t made it and of course they have refunded the cost of those. I prefer receiving smaller plants to give them time to mature in my landscape. GGP provides the roots and the plants do the growing here. It’s worked pretty great.
I’m in zone 8a - coastal Virginia.
