Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

 How To Grow Soil: Needs well-draining soil. Thrives even in sandy to gravelly soils of moderate to low fertility.
Light: Does best in full sun but appreciates some protection from harsh sun and heat exposure in very hot summer regions.
Water: Medium to dry. Considered drought-tolerant once established. Overwatering will impair growth.
Spacing: 1 - 2 ft.
Fertilizing: On average, sedum seldom needed to be fertilized. A handful of all-purpose granular fertilizer sprinkled on the soil each spring is generally all that is needed for poorer soils. If growing in rich soil, it should only be fertilized every other year. Dry granular fertilizers must be watered into the soil.
Winterizing: Does not need mulch in the winter. Remove the debris (such as the remains of showy sedums) from under and around your plants in the late fall and continue to remove any debris as it accumulates. Small animals and bugs may take home in accumulated debris during cold weather.
Maintenance & Pruning: Can cut back in Autumn, after flowering. Divide in spring.

Just what I thought it would be!

I have a container garden so the sedum went into 6 rectangular window boxes which are strategically placed on the floor of the terrace. I love the variety of colors and textures as well as the ease of caring for them. They’re so healthy and growing so fast, though, I might have to give them a hair cut!

More than satisfied!

It took a little time for all of the varieties to flourish, but now it looks just like the advertised picture. I have had many neighbors admire it. It reminds me of a colorful carpet, and adds texture to my garden sanctuary! 😊

WIsh I had discovered this stuff sooner...

Sedum sod seemed like an answer to the question of how to avoid the mowing chore in front of my home- which was maddening because the area is small and its not like the grass was very nice. Patchy and weedy were the general themes... Plus, I really don't like pouring a lot of perfectly good water down the sewers, so the idea of sedums being more drought-tolerant also appealed.
So, with zero experience of sedum, but a decent green thumb, I decided to go for it. I ripped up all of the weeds and grass, separated the beautiful, lush flats I received into plugs and thanks to a cool and wet Spring, they are off to a great start. In two months, I've watered twice and haven't had to drag the mower around the house once.
I can't wait for them to fill in all of the bare spots!

LOVE IT!
