Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

Lookin Good

The lavender arrived in great shape and they’ve been in the ground for at least a month. They look great and I believe they’ll be showstoppers next year. Very pleased. Need a few more plants to fill in the bed and will definitely order more in the spring.

Amazing lavender!

I ordered several of these lavender to plant along my front walk. I was a bit nervous because I have never been able to get my lavender to survive. I planted them in late October 2021 and they overwintered in my coastal Virginia garden. Flash forward to a year later and WOW! They have grown and bloomed like crazy since May. I will buy all of my plants from GGP from now on!

Beautiful plants!

Purchased two Hidcote Lavender as an experiment to see how they'd do in our soil, and I'm pleased to say they not only arrived safely, they've thrived! One of them is even trying to bloom in mid-October!

Dead plants the first time and so were replacements

I used to buy all my landscapr plants from Great Garden Plants because of the high quality of the plants received and the excellent customer service. When I recently decided I needed some lavendar plants I ordered four "Hidcote" Lavendar plants from them. The plants arrived on August 17 and were dead. It appeared that dead plant stalks had literally been shoved into dry potting soil. There were no indications that water had ever touched the soil. I immediately contacted Great Garden Plants and was assurred that replacements plants would be shipped. When the replacement plants arrived they were in a somewhat better condition than the original plants but the majority of each plant was dry and withered and the soil was dry. I haven't contacted Great Garden Plants again because I don't want to receivve four more dead lavendar plants. I'm thoroughly disappointed in the quality of the plants.
