Description
Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

Don't waste another season on a dull shade garden! Whether they are the classic green and unique blues, or purples and red hues, these plants will give at least three seasons of color in your garden.
Received all my plants packed nicely for my fall planting. They’re all in the ground and seem to be doing well. Looking forward to Springtime to see how they handled our winter.
The plant was small but it has a good root system and has adapted well to the garden. Obviously it won’t bloom this year, but it’s putting out a bit of new growth and looks good.
My plant arrived quickly and packaged well. Plant was healthy and expected size. Very pleased.
Plant is in the ground and growing nicely.
This could be a really bad year for new plants, with no rain for a month and heat in the high 90s or worse here in zone 7a New Jersey and across the country. Despite the weather, all my perennials ordered from Great Garden Plants arrived packaged well, still moist, alive and looking healthy. The Moccachino Astilbe is still alive with healthy shoots, and though it is past blooming season and a looking a little worse for the heat and drought, with continued watering, I am confident it will continue to survive and be back in spring looking glorious. I have ordered from GGP several times this year and am very happy with its selection and the quality of its plants. Most importantly, GGP's shipping methods are superior, and every plant has arrived in great condition despite the high temperatures in transit.
plants are firmly planted since end of may and still not blooming
Hello! It's hard to say for certain why you're not seeing blooms, since so many factors - like weather, soil type, watering, and fertilizing all come into play. When transplanting young plants from a nursery pot to a garden, the plant allocates more energy to root development instead of shoot development (above ground). It's important for them to develop a robust root system so they can actually absorb the nutrients and water in the soil around them. Then after their root system is more developed they'll invest in their shoots and flower development. If your plant appears to be dying, please email pictures of the plant to claims@greatgardenplants.com, making sure to put your order number and name in the subject line so that we may provide the best assistance possible. Rest assured, we do have a 60-day guarantee on all of our plants. If you received your plants within that timeframe, we will be happy to apply your warranty once we receive the pictures. Happy Gardening!
