Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

Arrived in good condition. Well packed for shipping. It's blooming nicely and appears to be very happy
Seven quart-sized Pugster Periwinkle butterfly bushes arrived in October well packaged but slightly dry. With watering they hydrated well and were set outside and then planted en mass within two days in full sun. Now that it is the end of November in zone 8a, they have produced some new leaves and will be wonderful color contrasting next to white roses in the spring.
I planted fall 2021, I protected them their first winter (Massachusetts, lots of snow). I did fertilize at the beginning of spring. They have both done well and are just starting to bloom in their first year! So thrilled. I ordered 2, and they are both doing well.
ordered two bushes, one thrived but the other just never grew, hasn't died entirely but is still the exact same size as when i planted it and quite sickly looking. both were planted in the same soil, same area. Not sure I would order again at the price and then the additional shipping cost I'm not sure it's worth it.

The first punster perrywinkle was terrific when it arrived, so I ordered another and totally dried out with leaves withering and falling off . So sad. I’m trying to save it but very displeased.
