Cytisus Sister Golden Hair® Description

Jumbo flowers on this springtime herald! Sister Golden Hair® Scotch broom (Cytisus scoparius) is a low ground tuffet that’s smothered in big, bright, pure yellow flowers in spring. It boasts the largest flowers of any Scotch broom. They obscure the neat and tiny green leaves and wiry green stems when in bloom.

Scotch broom is a tough plant with outstanding deer resistance and drought tolerance. We really like Sister Golden Hair Scotch broom planted as an edging, at the point where a wall or border turns, or mixed with flowers in a sunny, dry garden.

Special features: Deer resistant, Drought tolerant, Sun loving

PLANTING GUIDE

Soil:  Plant in any well-drained spot. Scotch broom cannot tolerate wet areas.
Light: Full sun (6+ hrs/day)
Water:  Dry to average
Space:  Min. 2' apart
Fertilizing:  Little fertilizer is needed.
Winterizing:  No special treatment is required; leave intact and avoid areas that are wet in winter.
Maintenance:  Blooms on old wood, which means that any pruning should be done after bloom. If plants become thin and scraggly, cut back to just a few inches high after bloom for a flush of lush new growth.
