Soil: Average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Prefers moist, sandy soils, but has surprisingly good drought tolerance. Drought tolerant in the North; even moisture is required in the South.
Light: Tolerates filtered sunlight, but prefers full sun.
Water: Medium -- well drained soil. Can adapt to dry or moist conditions but cannot tolerate standing water.
Spacing: 6-8 inches
Fertilizing: Fertilize at planting time or in early spring with a slow-release product such as Osmocote.
Winterizing: Appreciates a winter mulch in the northern parts of its growing range.
Maintenance & Pruning: Deadhead individual spent flowers and remove spent flowering stems.
