Lagerstroemia Infinitini® Watermelon Crapemyrtle Description

Get juicy, summer-drenched color with Infinitini Watermelon® crapemyrtle (Lagerstroemia indica). This high-performance crapemyrtle from Proven Winners is a shrubby type, which needs no pruning and takes up just a fraction of the space of the large tree selections. Starting in summer, it becomes a mass of bright, watermelon-pink blooms that continue through the season. The color is truly traffic-stopping! Come fall, its foliage lights up in an array of orange, yellow, and red.

Infinitini crapemyrtles were developed in central Pennsylvania and have proven hardy even in USDA zone 6. They are some of the most cold-tolerant crapemyrtles to date! They may die back to the ground in colder areas, but they come roaring back from the roots and go on to bloom fabulously later in summer.

Special features: Dwarf shrub, Long blooming, Deer resistant, Fall color, Fast growing

Soil:  Moist but well-drained soils are best. Can tolerate some dryness once established.
Light: Full sun (6+ hrs/day).
Water:  Average.
Space:  Plant at least 4' apart.
Fertilizing:  Little needed. If desired, fertilize in early spring, once the ground has thawed, with a granular rose fertilizer. A second application may be made in late spring/early summer as well.
Winterizing:  A good 2-3" layer of mulch is recommended, USDA zone 6.
Maintenance:  Blooms on new wood, so can be safely pruned in spring, though it is rarely necessary, thanks to its tidy, dwarf habit. Dead wood can be removed in spring, once new growth has begun to emerge and it's clear where any dieback may have occurred.
