Sedum Himalayan Skies Description
Unique, compact and oh-so-charming sedum Himalayan Skies has quickly become one of our favorites among staff here at GreatGardenPlants. Ultra hardy at zone 3 and growing only 3" tall, ice blue evergreen foliage is a "must-have" for small spaces, container gardens or fairy gardens.
This near-perfect perennial adds just the right color and texture to your favorite container. Unlike other deciduous sedums, where foliage turns ugly in the fall, Himalayan Skies keeps it's good looks throughout the season. Impervious to drought, disliked by deer you couldn't ask for a more undemanding groundcover that thrives in sun and some part shade and appreciates well drained soil
Tuck into small spaces, rock garden, between stepping stones or mix and match with other smaller scale plants such as hens & chicks or succulents.
Benefits of Himalayan Skies sedum
Color all season
There are very hardy blue plants with such staying power. Blue is a cool and calming color that can tone down bolder colors in a garden. Sedums are divided into deciduous types (lose their leaves) and evergreen types (keep their leaves). An evergreen type that still looks lovely during the dead of winter.
Habit
Why is habit so important? It's tight habit means you don't waste any space and helps keep the weeds at bay. Plus it's easy to tuck into your favorite container. This is quite different from Blue Spruce which grows bigger and taller.
Little water & care
Going away for a weekend? No worries, that container of sedum on your hot patio will never be the worse for wear. You can almost plant it and forget it - that's how easy it is to grow. No need to trim or deadhead. This is a prefer care-free drought proof perennial.

PLANTING GUIDE
Soil: Average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils. Thrives in sandy to gravelly soils of moderate to low fertility. Needs sharp soil drainage to perform well. Prefers moist soils with good drainage.
Light: Does best in full sun, but appreciates some protection from harsh sun and heat exposure in very hot summer regions.
Water: Medium to dry -- Considered drought-tolerant once established. Over watering will impair growth.
Spacing: 1 - 2 ft.
Fertilizing: On average soil, seldom needs fertilizer. A handful of all-purpose granular fertilizer sprinkled on the soil each spring is generally all that is needed for poorer soils. If growing in rich soil, it should only be fertilized every other year. Dry granular fertilizers must be watered into the soil.
Winterizing: Does not need mulch in the winter. Remove the debris (such as the remains of showy sedums) from under and around your plants in the late fall and continue to remove any debris as it accumulates. Small animals and bugs may take home in accumulated debris during cold weather.
Maintenance & pruning: Divide if needed.Reviews
