Chaenomeles Double Take™ Peach Description

Double Take Peach quince (Chaenomeles speciosa) from Proven Winners combines all the old-fashioned charm of flowering quince with several modern improvements. For example, it's thornless! No getting scratched up when you go to appreciate those fabulous blooms. It also boasts double flowers that look a bit like a rose or a camellia, thanks to the showy extra petals. Finally, it's exceptionally heat tolerant, with even hot climates reporting several weeks of bloom. Branches make an absolutely elegant cut flower, and an ideal combination with spring bulbs and perennials.

Note: Double Take Pink quince does not produce fruit.

Special Features: Shade tolerant, heat tolerant, long blooming, thornless

Soil: Very adaptable to a wide range of soils. Highly tolerant of clay. Established plants easily withstand dry conditions.
Light: Sun to partial shade
Water: Average water needs.
Spacing: 24-36 in.
Fertilizing: Little needed. If you want plants to grow more quickly, apply a granular rose fertilizer in early spring.
Winterizing: No specific care needed. Branches may be clipped and brought indoor for winter blooms.
Maintenance & pruning: Regular pruning is not required. However, if you wish to prune, do so immediately after flowering in spring. Note that quince flower mostly on two-year-old wood, so allow growth to develop for best bloom. Some rebloom in late summer/fall is common - consider it a bonus!
