Coreopsis American Dream Description
Available early May 2019 - reserve your plants now!
Unlike other Coreopsis, American Dream thrives in moisture. Blooms for 3+ months!
There are hundreds of varieties of Coreopsis, but few hardy pink types. Butterfly loving American Dream is a continuous blooming groundcover and one we've admired for many years in the garden. Where breeders are focusing more on other colors, it is a pleasure to enjoy the soft pink blooms which go on for up to 3 months. It needs no special attention as it quickly grows 18" tall and 24" wide. Just make sure the soil stays moist and this charmer will delight you for years to come!
Foliage is delicate and ferny giving an airy texture. In early summer, hundreds of daisy-like soft pink blooms with gold discs start to bloom, and continue well into late summer or early fall. They love full sun but will tolerate a little bit of shade. Great to tuck into small planting areas for an unforgettable mass display! It adds such a soft look to your cut flower vases!
Deer and rabbits don't nibble on this hardy perennial. Not bothered by insect or disease problems, but appreciates well drained soil.
How To Grow Coreopsis
Unlike other Coreopsis which can take dryer conditions, American Dream thrives in a moisture-retentive soil and is ideal near a rainspout or in a rain garden. Under ideal moist conditions, it will spread rapidly but size can be controlled by placing it in more normal soil .A midsummer shearing (after the first flush of flowers) help to tidy up the plants and promote late season bloom!
How to Design with Coreopsis
Pair with blues such as Salvia or Hydrangeas. Use along an edging where it can spill over the sides. Plant at the base of Clematis, which enjoys cool feet. Great for low areas that stay moist, near gutters and drainage areas in a sunny location. Plant in groups of 3 or more and intersperse throughout the perennial garden where it can ramble at the base of taller plants such as Daylilies. Group with Ornamental Grasses such as Festuca or Pennisetum Little Bunny.
