Delosperma Hot Cakes® 'Coconut Crush' Description

Don't be fooled - it looks like an old-fashioned daisy, but this nifty succulent groundcover is all modern performance. 

Hardy ice plants (Delosperma sp.) are finally enjoying the popularity they deserve. These hardy outdoor succulents look exotic but are super easy to grow, quickly forming dense mats of shimmering, succulent foliage and boldly colorful flowers. The crisp white of Hot Cakes 'Coconut Crush' ice plant brings a cool sophistication to the garden. They are especially nice and night when the petals seem to glow in the moonlight. Imagine that on a lovely summer night when friends and family are over! It's part of a new generation of delosperma from renown breeder Chris Hansen, who selected it for outstanding flowering and a neater, tidier habit. nbsp; Take your pick of six fabulous colors, and mix or match. How to grow:

  • Plant in full sun - at least six hours a day
  • Well drained soil is a must; dry, sandy, or gravelly soils are no problem at all!
  • Avoid cold, wet conditions and heavy soil
  • Once established, will rarely need watering
  • Not bothered by insects, pests, or diseases
  • Zero maintenance needed - they don't even need to be cut back

Designing with ice plants

Ice plants get their name from the tiny, glistening, crystal-like glands that cover their succulent leaves. Between this charming feature and their tropical-colored blooms, you'll want to plant them where you can enjoy them. They work nicely in rock gardens, along pathways, bordering walkways or driveways, or in any sunny spot that rarely gets water. Also try mixing them with other hardy succulents in a container.
