This selection from South Africa will thrive in sandy, poor soil and rarely needs watering. Plant in raised beds and cover with gravel mulch if winter wetness is an issue.

Soil: Dry, sharply-drained soils in full sun. This plant will grow poorly, or die in any soil that is not well-drained. Avoid clay soils that has not been amended. Tolerates average to lean soils including sandy and gravelly ones.
Light: Full sun
Water: Water sparingly during the growing season. Plants have good tolerance for heat and drought.
Spacing: 1 to 2 feet
Fertilizing: Need little to no fertilizing
Winterizing: North of USDA zones 7, it is at best semi-evergreen and is not reliably winter hardy. They should be sited in dry sheltered locations and given winter protection.
Maintenance & pruning: No pruning needed. Once established, can divide clumps in spring, or grow from stem cuttings.
