Geranium 'Biokovo' Description
Award-winning 'Biokovo' combines neatness in form with superb vigor and impressive long flowering season.
True hardy geraniums are perhaps one of the underutilized perennial groundcovers. Some hardy geraniums fall apart and look tatty in the summer. Not Biokovo! We can't say enough of this oh-so-sweet butterfly-loving hardy cranesbill. An ideal, trouble-free groundcover with striking well mannered foliage that stays SO tidy in the landscape and the deer and rabbits stay away too!
In fall, fragrant foliage glows red! Drought and moisture tolerant!
Five-petal blooms are white tinged with pink pink stamens with an overall color impact of a blushing pink geranium as they float above the fragrant foliage in early summer.
Hard for weeds to get thru! Growing only 6" tall and 18" wide, Biokovo forms a dense mat that make it hard for weeds to penetrate. Semi-evergreen in most climates. It does spread - but in a nice way filling in gaps and holes in the landscape.
How to grow geranium
This easy going plant needs no coddling or even much feeding. Easy to divide in spring. It does well in full sun or part shade so it's great for those transitional areas. Although it thrives in moist, well drained soil, it can do well in clay or sand.
Designing with geranium
Discover how pretty it looks spilling over sidewalks and boulders where its spreading habit is easily controllable. This will easily become your favorite plant in front of the perennial border, or beneath trees. Since it slowly spreads, it gradually makes its way through the garden. We find this rather pleasing, where a bit of rambling actually looks nice at the base of a shrub or other taller plants. Biokova will bring out the beauty in both foliage and flower and is key in ensuring your garden looks good all season long.
If you appreciate great texture and a great look - this is a "go-to" plant. So admired, it has received the prestigious Perennial Plant of the Year award.
