Heuchera 'Berry Smoothie' Description

Add a jolt of color to your perennial garden with this hot pink foliage Heuchera that is heat & humidity tolerant!

We've been amazed at the vigor and vibrant color of this heuchera as we've watched it during the hot & humid summers in Michigan. Nothing seems to phase this coral bells hybrid!

Heuchera Berry Smoothie vigorously grows to form a colorful 18" mound of foliage, and makes a superb addition to summer containers, or partially shaded gardens.

A little known fact is that heuchera leaves make great cut foliage subjects where they will last for more than 2 weeks in arrangements.

Plant Berry Smoothie heuchera with colorful hostas, and textural hardy ferns to create stunning garden combos.

Heucheras are best grown in a humus, well drained with sufficient moisture. Once established, it can take on heat, humidity, even poor soil.

An evergreen ground cover, you can trim away any tired looking foliage in the spring.

Special features: Attracts butterflies, Color change, Deer resistant, Drought tolerant, Easy care, Fall color, Foliage interest, Attracts hummingbirds, Multi-season interest

Soil: Coral bells like a neutral to slightly acid soil pH, somewhere between 6.0 and 7.0. Good drainage is a must, especially in shaded areas. They do well in soil where some organic matter has been added.
Light: As a general rule, Heucheras do well in shade, but for the highly colored varieties some morning sun will bring out more intense coloring. The color can wash out in full sun, and too much heat and light can cause the leaves to scorch.
Water: Average -- better too dry than too wet when established. Keep the soil evenly moist but not consistently wet to prevent root rot. To reduce the risk of foliar disease, Heuchera require watering during the early morning so any excess moisture can evaporate before evening. Drip irrigation effectively delivers moisture directly to the soil, further reducing the plant's vulnerability to disease.
Spacing: 1.5 ft
Fertilizing: Use good quality compost or well aged livestock manure, or a combination of the two. Apply a few pounds for each plant, each year or two. On poor soils, top dress every year, or every other year on moderate quality soils. Spreading a 2-inch layer of mulch over the soil surrounding Heuchera helps insulate the soil during winter and improve moisture retention. About 3 inches of space between the plant's crown and the mulch allows air circulation, which prevents rotting and disease. Replenishing the mulch throughout the year ensures proper winter protection, and hinders the establishment of competitive weeds.  Heuchera does not require fertilization during the fall or winter months.
Winterizing: Winter mulching will prevent the freezing and thawing that can heave plants roots.
Maintenance & pruning: Cut back the entire flower stalk after flowering to put the plants energy into growing more leaves.  Divide coral bells every 3-5 years to keep them from dying out in the center.

Received them in very good condition and well packaged. Love the color even though it's not as vibrant pink as the picture, I know that heauchera do change color depending where they are planted and the amount of sun they receive. Would definitely buy more plants from this company.

My recent order of plants was received yesterday, and I am thrilled with the quality. Thank you! The plants were packed so expertly that even though the delivery person didn't observe the 'UP notice on the boxes, the plants were still intact and in great shape. It was with great pleasure that I unpacked the plants and admired each one yesterday. I certainly would recommend your company to others. Thank you for your efficiency and for the wonderful plants! I'll be back for more!
