It was a breeding breakthrough when Proven Winners ColorChoice shrubs introduced Invincibelle Spirit, the first 'Annabelle'-type hydrangea with pink flowers - and this new and improved version sets the bar even higher! Invincibelle Spirit® II hydrangea boasts stronger stems, richer color, a neater habit, and improved reblooming over the original.
This overachiever of a hydrangea has supported the Breast Cancer Research Foundation with a dollar per plant donation, and has raised over one million dollars for life-saving research so far. To help reach the next million, we here at Great Garden Plants are doubling the donation for every plant purchased through us - $2 instead of the normal $1!
Invincibelle Spirit II hydrangea is a reliable smooth hydrangea that blooms ever year, even in cold areas. This means that finally, gardeners in very cold areas can enjoy beautiful pink hydrangeas - it's hardy from zones 3-8.
It's not just fantastic pink blooms and strong stems (no flopping!) that set this hydrangea apart from 'Annabelle' - it also reblooms, producing fresh flowers all the way up til frost.
Invincible Spirit Hydrangea II makes a superb addition to any flower garden or landscape. It can also be planted as a flowering hedge. Big mophead blooms are attractive in the garden and as a cut flower - fresh or dried.
The pink hydrangea used to develop Invincibelle Spirit II hydrangea was discovered by a graduate student hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains. After many years of plant development and selection, this special plant stands above the rest for performance and reliability.

Soil: Any average, well-drained soil will do. Avoid wet conditions. Can tolerate somewhat dry conditions but flowering may be compromised. A good 2-3" layer of shredded bark mulch keeps roots cool and conserves moisture.
Light: Most varieties tolerate full sun in the north, but benefit from afternoon shade. Tolerates full sun only if grown with consistent moisture. In the South, plants require afternoon shade. If plants wilt frequently, that's a good indicator that the spot is a bit too sunny. If flower color is pale, or stems are weak, that indicates the site is a bit too shady.
Water: Water to keep soil moist, but not wet.
Spacing: 4 - 5 ft.
Fertilizing: Fertilize once in spring with a granular fertilizer formulated for roses.
Winterizing: Leave intact over winter and keep 2-3" mulch in place.
Maintenance & pruning: This variety blooms on new wood. In late winter or early spring, cut stems back by about one-third their total height, which builds a strong woody base while also encouraging abundant new growth for lots of flowers and a lush, full look. Young plants may be transplanted when dormant in early spring if desired.
