Carex 'Bowles Golden' Description

Carex Bowles Golden will provide 3+ seasons of interest with fine textured foliage that enliven dark corners of the shade garden.

Bowles Golden sedge forms a tidy clump of narrow golden leaves edged in green. Dwelling happily in moisture retentive soil, Carex forms a versatile low growing evergreen groundcover the deer stay away from.

Long lived and durable, Carex slowly increases in size year after year, while providing a stunning statement paired with bold leafed hostas, colorful heucheras or hardy ferns.

This shade loving ornamental grass can be grown in containers, in the bog garden, used in mass plantings, or anywhere attractive foliage is valued throughout the seasons.

Special features: Deer resistant, Evergreen, Foliage interest, Moisture tolerant, Multi-seasonal interest, Variegated

Soil: Medium to wet soils - Plants thrive in moist soils, but also perform well in average garden soils, with better tolerance for periods of dryness than most sedges have.
Light: Part shade - Foliage color is richer in part shade than in sun. Plants tend to languish in full shade.
Water: Likes even moisture, so water regularly.
Spacing: 1.00 to 1.50 feet
Fertilizing: Needs very little. On poor soil, a light scattering of time release fertilizer in spring should be all that is needed.
Winterizing: No specific care needed. This sedge is evergreen in the deep South, maintaining good foliage in both summer and winter. It is not totally evergreen in the St. Louis area, although some foliage color will persist through mild winters, so wait until late winter or early spring to cut back, or tidy up the foliage.
Maintenance & pruning: Where not evergreen, foliage should be cut to the ground and removed in late winter.

I just wanted to thank you for the amazing and beautiful, excellent quality plants I received from you. The front of my home faces northand I can never find beautiful shade plants in my local nurseries. The only mildly interesting plants I could ever find were Hostas. That is,until I find your website! I was so shocked that so many beautiful plants and flowers were available for shade! I've ordered plants online before and have always been disappointed. Ieither receive bare root plants that are dead by the time I receive them, or they're packaged so badly they arrive crushed and mangled, or they're so tiny they rarely take and when they do it takes forever to grow into something you can see. I was so shocked and surprised how beautiful the plants were that you shipped me! They were packaged really well, they were established, they were moist and in awesome condition! Thank you so much for providing such quality plants! You have earned yourself a customer for life! Keep up the great work and know that your efforts are appreciated. I feel it's important to let companies know when they're doing a great job and you guys are doing a STELLAR job. (And I've told ALL my friends and neighbors about your site!)
