Hosta 'Dream Weaver' Description

AVAILABLE SPRING 2020!

Lovely 'Dream Weaver' hosta has boldly colored robust foliage and has unforgettable presence in the garden.

Stunning blue leaves are dramatically splotched with gold in the center and grow to form a big 2-3' mound in the garden. You'll notice a thick, rippled texture in the leaves which makes this hosta far less appealing to slugs than other types. Bonus!

Summer brings on 30" spikes of large, white, bell-shaped flowers.

We love 'Dream Weaver' hosta combined with shade groundcover plants that offer different color and texture, including colorful heucheras, hellebores, or ferns.

Special features: Cold hardy, Cut flower, Cut foliage, Easy care, Foliage interest, Heat tolerant, Moisture tolerant, Rabbit resistant, Variegated

Grow hostas in shade to partial shade (morning sun/afternoon shade) with good, moist soil. Thick-leaved varieties like this one can withstand a bit of drought once they are established, but they don't thrive under hot and dry conditions.

PLANTING GUIDE

Soil: Average to moist soils, high in organic matter (compost, manure) are best.
Light: Part shade to full shade -- Best in part shade (some morning sun or sun-dappled conditions).
Water: Medium -- Established plants have some tolerance for dry shade (particularly plants with thick leaves), but soils should never be allowed to dry out. Water is best applied directly to the soil beneath the leaves.
Spacing: 3 feet
Fertilizing: Apply a layer of compost or rotted manure in spring - this helps retain moisture and enriches soil.
Winterizing: Mulch or cover the crowns of the plants with cut branches or dry leaves in winter. Foliage dies back after a severe frost and usually does not need to be manually removed.
Maintenance & pruning: 'Waterslide' hosta resists slug damage better than other varieties.  However, in regions of the country where the environment is conducive to slugs, use slug bait, dishes of beer, and diatomaceous earth to discourage them. Tip: put slug bait down in late winter/very early spring to kill the tiny ones hatching out at that time. Groom plants by removing yellow or dead leaves, and cut flower spikes back as they finish blooming in summer. Hosta leaves are very nice added to arrangements - simply cut off leaves as necessary, removing no more than one-third of the plant in one go.
