Pulmonaria 'Trevi Fountain' Description

Pulmonaria Trevi Fountain has an artist's palette of eye-pleasing speckled foliage combined with dozens of cobalt-blue flowers growing happily as a shade groundcover in cool moist soil.

Deer-proof, disease-proof, this clump forming perennial is sure to brighten any dull spot in the garden.

Large blue flowers emerge in early spring atop stems of silver & green leaves. Blooms remain colorful for up to 2 months. After flowering finishes, pulmonaria produces more leaves, whereupon the straplike 6"" long leaves take center stage with their pronounced bright silver spotting.

Pulmonarias are happiest receiving the delicate rays of morning sun in a part-shade site.

Pair with Hardy Ferns, bold-leaved Hostas, or large flowering Hydrangeas.

Special features: Blooms first year, Cold hardy, Deer resistant, Disease resistant, Easy care, Foliage interest, Mildew resistant, Multi-seasonal interest, Pest resistant, Rabbit resistant, Variegated

Soil: Prefers cool, organically rich, humusy soils that are kept consistently moist.
Light: Part shade to full shade. Foliage may depreciate considerably in hot summer weather, and may scorch if grown in too much sun. Although plants tolerate light morning sun, they need afternoon shade.
Water: Medium -- Soils must not be allowed to dry out. Plants may go into dormancy in the heat of a St. Louis summer if soils become too dry.
Spacing: 18 - 24 inches
Fertilizing: Top dress with composted manure and bone meal (if soil tends toward acid) as soon as flowering is complete, and twice more during the summer with a mild fertilizer such as fish emulsion.
Winterizing: Can allow the plant to die back in winter, and remove damaged or dead foliage in early spring to make way for fresh spring growth.
Maintenance & pruning:  Try to keep these plants in an open, airy position with no night time or overhead watering to minimize risk of mildew. Remove flower stems immediately after bloom. Plants can be cut back hard immediately after blooming to rejuvenate the leaves, which will then remain attractive all season. Evergreen in mild winter regions. Divide plants in fall if they become too crowded.
