Phlox Forever Pink Description

Phlox Forever Pink is destined for popularity!  This easy-care, drought proof, sun perennial plant will delight you with hummingbird loving, summer long blooms, and outstanding garden performance.

Forever Pink is a clump forming sun perennial with vibrant purple pink blooms that start to bloom in June, then REBLOOMS throughout the summer and well into October! In peak, the blooms literally smother the disease resistant foliage as they are held up on strong stems that stay upright and never need staking.  Clumps are uniform and compact, creating a tidy appearance in the garden.

Forever Pink is a hybrid cross that blooms after creeping phlox, but before Summer Phlox (paniculata & maculata types) start to bloom.

Introduced by Dr. Jim Ault of the Chicago Botanic Gardens where plants are rigorously tested before they are introduced to the market.

Phlox perform well in full sun, and well drained soil. Medium soil moisture recommended the first year, but highly drought tolerant once established. It has performed well on the heavy clay & alkaline soil at the Chicago Botanic Garden.

Delight in fresh fragrant bouquets throughout the summer with long lasting cut flowers lasting up to7-10 days in the vase.

Place in the front of the sun perennial border, plant in groupings, or intersperse throughout your beds color all summer long. Combine this hard working sun perennial with drought-proof Sedums, fragrant Coneflowers, and long-blooming KnockOut Roses.

Special Features: Butterfly Lovers, Cut Flower, Easy Care, Everblooming, Fragrance, Heat Tolerant, Long Blooming, Mildew Resistant, Multi-seasonal Interest, Rebloomer

Soil: Well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Plants prefer soil with a slightly acid to neutral pH.
Light: Phlox grow best in full sun (or partial shade in the South)
Water: Medium -- Susceptible to powdery mildew, especially in dry soil. A 1-2 inch mulch of chopped leaves, wood chips, shredded bark, or other attractive organic material will help soil retain an even level of moisture. Water deeply during dry spells to reduce the incidence of disease, and dust with sulfur (available at most garden centers) beginning in early summer.
Spacing: 15 - 18 inches
Fertilizing: A general purpose slow-acting granular fertilizer worked into the soil around the plants in the spring is sufficient for phlox for the season.  Be conservative, because too much nitrogen will generate excess tender foliage that is prone to disease and pests.
Winterizing: No special care needed. Leave foliage standing in winter, and clean up spent foliage in spring.
Maintenance & Pruning: Thinning half of the shoots when 6" tall in spring (to allow better air circulation) helps keep mildew at bay and encourages plants to produce larger and longer-lasting flower heads. Shear off after bloom, just above foliage to encourage more blooms. Divide every few years, replanting sections from the edge of the clump and discarding the woody center.
