Weigela Sonic Bloom® Pearl Description

Get more color in every bloom with Sonic Bloom® Pearl weigela. The flowers on this reblooming shrub start out white with a dab of yellow in the center, and as they age, they turn various shades of pink. It creates a multi-color effect that makes it even prettier than other weigela – which are already awfully pretty! You can rely on Sonic Bloom Pearl to bloom alongside conventional weigela, but after it takes a little rest, it comes roaring back with more blooms, summer through frost.

About the Sonic Bloom® series: These reblooming weigela were specially selected by Proven Winners from plant breeders around the world for outstanding performance.  Not only do reblooming weigela give you way more flowers than conventional types, their prolonged summer and autumn bloom attract hummingbirds during peak season. They bloom about as much as a landscape rose, but with none of the problems!

Special features: Deer resistant, Foliage plant, Attracts hummingbirds

Soil:  Grow in any moist but well-drained soil. Leaf edges will turn brown if exposed to very dry or very hot conditions.
Light: Full sun (6+ hrs/day) to part shade
Water:  Average
Space:  Min. 3' apart.
Fertilizing:  Apply a granular rose or garden fertilizer in early spring if desired. Never fertilize weigela past mid-summer, as this increases likelihood of winter damage to any new growth the plant puts on as a result.
Winterizing:  A good 2-3" layer of mulch is recommended.
Maintenance:  Weigela bloom on old wood so should only be pruned after their spring bloom. Once plants are mature (after at least 5 years in the ground), you may want to remove a few of the oldest stems each year to keep it producing vigorous young growth. Note: weigela are one of the last shrubs to leaf out in spring, so don't panic if you aren't seeing signs of life even if everything else in your yard has started to grow.
