Description

Eye-catching, trouble-free 'Atlantis' sedum (Sedum sp.) beckons a place in your garden, providing no less than three seasons of continual foliage interest. Stylish green toothed rosettes edged in wide margins of cream to yellow provides a distinctive warmth, charm, and character in your landscape. In mid-summer, small colorful yellow clusters appear above the waxy foliage. In fall, the creamy margins are tinged with blush tones as the temperatures cool, adding to its multi-season appeal. At only 6" tall and 12" wide, this clump-forming drought tolerant ground cover is easy to grow and maintain while transforming spots in your garden with color on color contrast. Small enough to tuck into narrow spaces, containers, rock walls, or used as a vibrant edging plant. Grow this lovely sedum without worry, as they're incredibly tough and resilient. This drought-tolerant plant thrives in a variety of soil conditions and is incredibly low-maintenance.

How to Grow

Soil: Needs well-draining soil. Thrives even in sandy to gravelly soils of moderate to low fertility.
Light: Does best in full sun but appreciates some protection from harsh sun and heat exposure in very hot summer regions.
Water: Average to dry. Considered drought-tolerant once established. Overwatering will impair growth.
Spacing: 1 - 2 ft.
Fertilizing: On average, sedum seldom needed to be fertilized. A handful of all-purpose granular fertilizer sprinkled on the soil each spring is generally all that is needed for poorer soils. If growing in rich soil, it should only be fertilized every other year. Dry granular fertilizers must be watered into the soil.
Winterizing: Does not need mulch in the winter. Remove the debris (such as the remains of showy sedums) from under and around your plants in the late fall and continue to remove any debris as it accumulates. Small animals and bugs may take home in accumulated debris during cold weather.
Maintenance & Pruning: Can cut back in Autumn, after flowering. Divide in spring.

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:
