Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

Well she arrived small but with one leaf bud. Rested her, planted her, watered and fertilized her. 5 weeks later- Bud dead. She looks overall dead… but we will wait to see what happens next spring. Hopefully she is taking root under the surface and will show signs of life. Grateful for an extended guarantee period for those who buy in the fall, in case she doesn’t make it. Won’t know til at least March , frankly, I’d this was a smart purchase.

When transplanting young plants from a nursery pot to a garden, the plant allocates more energy to root development instead of shoot development (above ground). It's important for them to develop a robust root system so they can absorb the nutrients and water in the soil around them. Then after their root system is more developed, they'll invest in their shoots and flower development.
You are correct in that we offer an extended guarantee in the fall! Our fall guarantee covers plants received after September 1 until May 2023. Happy Gardening!
I received this order in a timely manner, and it was excellently packaged. I had a hard time getting to the actual plant, LOL.. I am so excited about this beautiful baby. I immediately planted the plant according to the excellent planting guide. I did lose some of the leaves, but I did expect that. So far this baby is surviving, and we had some very cold Texas nights. Keeping my fingers crossed that this spring I will be seeing leaves. Thanks so much
I planted this the day after it came and weeks later it looks the same. Here's hoping.

Then after their root system is more developed they'll invest in their shoots and flower development. They generally spend their first year growing roots in their new home, the second year they have more energy to put into growth, and the third year, they are growing and flowering vigorously. This applies to plants in the garden center as well as plants you purchase online. We hope this helps. Happy Gardening!
These little plants are very small but in very good condition. I have had them for about a month or so.
