Description
Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

It’s doing fairly well planted in with tomato plants and the other two plants I had ordered. Hopefully will mature enough this year to feed the Bees 🐝
That was my intentions with my entire order.
Thanks for a beautiful plant - my mom couldn’t have been more thrilled. It arrived before Mother’s Day and I only ordered the week prior. Excellent all around. When I asked her how the plant was doing, she said “very happy.” 10/10
I bought 2 sweet shrubs and planted in 2 different locations. Both have leaves partially eaten. I have just relocated one to see if that helps.
Hello! We're sorry to hear about your Aphrodite Sweetshrub. Keep in mind, deer resistant does not equal deer-proof. Deer does tend to avoid sweetshrub, but deer and other animals will eat nearly any plant if they are hungry enough. Young plants (like those we sell) are most susceptible to deer damage, so we still recommend keeping an eye on them as they grow! We recommend using a deer repellant spray to help keep the deer at bay. Happy Gardening!
I fell in love when I saw this plant at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. It appears to have settled well into the garden. I'm excited to see how it will fare over the winter...and can't wait for flowers to appear.
