Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Description 'Essence Purple' Lavender has a rounded habit that looks effortlessly tidy in the landscape. While it is shorter than other lavender plants (reaching 18-24 inches tall), it blooms just as prolifically with lavender-blue flowers. It kicks off the lavender season as one of the first English lavenders to bloom in early summer. Butterflies and bees flock to the flowers as they bloom into early fall, providing months of interest in the garden.

While it may be called English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), it's native to the Mediterranean, growing in dry and sandy soils. Given plenty of sun and well-draining soil, 'Essence Purple' lavender will reward you with multiple flushes of fragrant flowers. Maintenance & pruning: Remove faded flowers to promote continued bloom. Prune once or twice a year to keep plant shapely. Prune in the spring after the lavender wakes up. Wait until the lavender has new growth (do not worry if it takes a while to wake up).

So far so good with English Lavender

Purchase four of the Essence Purple' Lavender (Lavandula).. They arrived in good shape. Per instructions, after opening, I let them rest inside for 24 hours before planting. Once planted, I regularly water them for two weeks. Three did well but the fourth died. Good news….I contacted great Garden plants for a warranty replacement and within a few days I had a new plant. It has taken off and currently has blooms. Overall, I’m pleased with the plants received from great Garden plants. Although a little pricey compared to my local suppliers, they have a great selection and excellent customer service. I will buy again.

2 half dead upon arrival

Planted all 3 even though they didn't look well. Now all 3 look dead in the garden.Their shipping container arrived in good condition and on time. I've had no problems with the quality of plants in previous orders but not so with these. Very disappointed.
