More Information

Description Fringed Bleeding Heart (Dicentra eximia) has all the charm we love about bleeding heart, but unlike others, this one is native to the United States! This everblooming native perennial flowers freely from spring to frost with clusters of heart-shaped flowers.  Pale pink hearts peel back at the bottom, revealing extra petals, giving this plant the name bleeding heart. Since it's heat tolerant, the gray-green foliage stays looking fresh all season long with adequate moisture. Extra dissected leaves resemble fern leaves, adding almost as much charm as the flowers! Try planting it in a rock garden, as ground cover, or underplanting shrubs, and it won't disappoint. All it needs to succeed is a well-draining soil, part sun or shade, and a home in your garden. Details Botanical name: Dicentra eximia
Common name: Fringed bleeding heart
Zone: 3 - 9
Sun exposure: Part sun (4-6 hours sun)
Height x width: 12-18" x 12-18"
Flower color: Pale pink
Foliage color: Gray-green
Season of interest: Spring through fall
Uses: Accent, container planting, massing, ornamental, rock garden, edging, underplanting
How To Grow Soil: Easily grown in average, well-drained soils.
Light: Part shade to full shade
Water: Average. Can grow in dry conditions but will go prematurely dormant; extreme dry conditions over the years can kill it.
Spacing: 3 feet
Fertilizing: In average soils, none needed. In poor soils a light application of time release fertilizer in spring is enough.
Winterizing: No specific care needed
Maintenance & pruning: No special needs required

Love love love.

Have not been able to get these in NJ because I’m always too late. One of my garden favorites and I found them here off season for my region. They are flourishing. Bought extra because they were cheap enough and assumed I would lose some. Not so much! I was able to share extras with a neighbor. Great quality and look forward to seeing these babies grow year over year!

Lovely

My plant is doing nicely. Wish I would have bought a couple more. They are so wispy, similar to the Ordinal species.

They are struggling.

Planted them in different spots in the yard and all are struggling. Hope to see them really settle in and be beautiful...if not this year, then next.
