Description

Add spectacular, long-lasting foliage to your garden with the newest addition to the Jazz Hands® series: Jazz Hands® Velvet! Like others in the series, this Chinese fringe flower (Loropetalum) has demonstrated superior deer and disease resistance, but this time in a smaller, more compact, mounded habit. The bloom coverage on Jazz Hands® Velvet is out of this world, with frilled pink flowers covering the dramatic burgundy-purple foliage in spring. Once the blooms fade, Jazz Hands Velvet® has shown excellent color retention, showcasing its stunning foliage for the remainder of the year without fading. If you’re looking to add a unique hedge plant or looking to deck out a patio container, this Chinese fringe flower would be the perfect fit.

How to Grow

Soil: Fertile, well-draining acidic soil.
Light: Sun (6+ hours of sun per day).
Water: Average to moist, a 2-inch layer of mulch will help keep the soil moist and cool.
Spacing: Minimum 3-5’ feet apart.
Fertilizing: Apply acid-loving evergreen fertilizer each spring.
Winterizing: Planting in a protected area from harsh winter winds will help prevent winter damage.
Maintenance & Pruning: Prune only in spring, after flowering, to shape the plant or remove dead growth. Blooms form on old wood, so pruning any other time of the year will remove buds.

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

bush distance

Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:
