Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

The picture looked so good and I was afraid it wouldn't look as good when it arrived but it does. We waited and waited because your first crop did not do well due to our inclement weather in the North. But finally it arrived and we were so excited - it did not disappoint. This first batch we divided up and spread throughout the rocks and next summer we will put out the large sheets around the rocks. Thank you and have a great relaxing winter!
Until next summer - Land O Lakes, WI 😊
I bought 2 flats a couple of years ago and absolutely love how it looks. I recently moved my privacy fence and have a problem spot on the other side. This is going to take care of that. The different blooms and textures are incredibly interesting and just plain fun to see growing and doing. I wish I could afford to do most of my yard with this.
I have a container garden so the sedum went into 6 rectangular window boxes which are strategically placed on the floor of the terrace. I love the variety of colors and textures as well as the ease of caring for them. They’re so healthy and growing so fast, though, I might have to give them a hair cut!
It took a little time for all of the varieties to flourish, but now it looks just like the advertised picture. I have had many neighbors admire it. It reminds me of a colorful carpet, and adds texture to my garden sanctuary! 😊
