Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

We ordered a Sunjoy Tangelo Barberry it looked a little sun burnt on two stems, I contacted Sarah at Great Garden Plants & she asked me to send her a picture of the bush & Sarah thought it looked sun burnt damaged also & she didn't hesitate to offer me a new barberry bush at no cost for replacement or delivery. We received the new barberry bush in a short period of time & the replacement was in excellent condition & was about 2 to 3 times bigger! Everything we have ordered has been in excellent shape and are thriving! The Sunjoy Tangelo barberry has lovely colors of deep orange & purple in Fall we are so glad we received another one! We will return to order our other bushes/plants through Great Garden Plants without any hesitation!
I ordered 4 plants and they arrived in very good condition and ready for planting. Looking forward to some nice bushes.
May was so hot the pants suffered from heat during shipping 4 of the 7 did not survive. 1 email & photos to customer service and I received 4 very healthy replacement bushes in a week. Very happy with Great Garden
Ordered a Tangelo Barberry shrub. Put the poor little thing out. Put much around it. It didn’t make it through the winter. I called they would not replace it. I would not remind this company to anyone. They need to take care of the customers. If not they won’t come back 😡
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. Our fall warranty covers plants until May 31, 2022. Unfortunately, you are out of warranty on your barberry. It appears that we have replaced a handful of plants for you in the past when they have fallen within our warranty window. Happy Gardening!
I was disappointed in the shrubs because they were tiny and I have been struggling to get it to grow
It is growing but at that rate it will take 3 years for them to look like something
Hello! Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. As mentioned on our website, we ship young plants with well established root systems. When transplanting young plants from a nursery pot to a garden, the plant allocates more energy to root development instead of shoot development (above ground). It's important for them to develop a robust root system so they can actually absorb the nutrients and water in the soil around them. Then after their root system is more developed they'll invest in their shoots and flower development. Happy Gardening!
