Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

All-America Selections chose it as the herbaceous perennial winner after a 3-year winter trial, showing no signs of fungus even in wet, humid conditions. The Perennial Plant Association selected it as 2023 Perennial of the Year for its reliable performance and long-lasting flowers. And finally, the National Garden Bureau named the genus Rudbeckia their 2023 Perennial of the Year for its flower power. All the experts agree: this perennial is worth its weight in gold (and more).

As a native perennial, Rudbeckia is easy to grow, heat tolerant, and drought tolerant. Flowers attract pollinators to the garden, and their seedheads are beloved by birds and other wildlife. It's perfectly suited for cottage gardens, cut flower gardens, prairies, or nearly any spot that needs an extra pop of color. Go Away Rabbits.

I love my Black-Eyed Susan but the rabbits keep eating the leaves. Unfortunately that is my problem. They have not bloomed yet

Not even close to being deer resistant!

These attracted the deer to my newly planted flower beds. I'm very sad as I worked so hard to get these beauties in the ground. I have net fence all around my beds now and spray with deer and rabbit repellent nightly. Some of them are starting to come back so, well see.

Plants arrived well packed and still moist. They were not at all what I anticipated - about an inch worth of stem and a single root. For $25.00. Each. (I ordered 2). One plant promptly died, the second struggles to get a foothold...I dont expect it will survive byt maybe. Won't order from this company again.
