Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

'All Gold' Japanese forest grass (Hakonechloa macra) will glow in your shade garden with bright, golden foliage. Slender leaves arch as they grow, forming a graceful cascading mound. With ample moisture and light, leaves will stay attractive from spring through fall.
This ornamental grass requires little maintenance and is resistant to pests, diseases, and deer, making it super easy to grow! There are so many design opportunities with this golden grass. Try planting it with darker leaf heucheras, bold-leaf hostas, or foreground planting to shrubs!

I am extremely disappointed with the plants I received considering the price I paid for them. They appeared noticeably small and ill-nourished, lacking vitality. Fortunately, I discovered superior plants available at a slightly higher cost, but the quality is unquestionably superior.

Have them in a huge decorative pot.
Will bring them in for winter.
I was initially surprised how small my little Hakone was when it arrived, but it was very healthy. I planted it the next day. It's done so well, remains very robust and has already almost doubled in size in 2 months. I'm so pleased and will love seeing it grow each year. A wonderful addition to my shade garden.
Had trouble finding any if these grasses in my area. I needed more to help fill some empty spots in the garden. They are slow growing so be patient. But the results are spectacular!! People comment on the gorgeous bright green color not found on any other variety of grasses. Keep moist in the heat. The packaging was perfect and the plants came in impeccable shape. Planted easily and are beautiful!
Waited a couple of days then planted in a large pot, in the shade. It is doing great. Can't wait for it to be FULL and it's in prime.
