Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

I ordered 3 - my plants arrived healthy and happy, and bigger than expected. Looking forward to planting them in my shade garden. Thanks GGP!
Plants looked exceptionally healthy when I received them. I ordered three coral bells of three different types. They just haven't done well. I have them planted next to some tuberous begonias which are doing nicely. I did not realize that the coral bells would be so fragile.
We are thinking that your leaves looking like this could either be a result of too much sunlight, or not enough water. Coral Bells typically do best in shady/partial sun areas. The photos you attached seem like the plants are in a sunnier area. It might be best to put them somewhere were they are getting less sun and making sure they are getting enough water.
I received my plants and the leaves were crunchy and brittle. There were a few tiny leaves at the bottom that were still green and so since the red lightning coral belles are so hard to find I kept the plants thinking they would recover. They didn't.
Hello! We apologize you received your plants not up to our standards. Over the last two years we haves spent hundreds of dollars to relandscape our home. Every plant came from GGP and yes every plant wintered over and came back bigger and better. If your looking for quality plants and a company that treats you right you have come to the right page. My hydrangeas are gorgeous and full of blossoms. Thank you growers from the bottom of my heart.
This Red Lightning Heuchera was delivered well-packaged, undamaged, very healthy and transplanted without stress. I'm very pleased with this online purchase. Like other Heucheras I've planted, it hasn't quite developed its red veining and I really don't expect it until next spring. So, it's currently more of a "Chartreuse Lightning", lol, but it's healthy and growing.
Again, I'm very please with this purchase and I'll likely be buying more from GGP. My only "issue" is that GGP does not routinely show plants' mature size in the description. I had to go to competitors' sites to track down the expected mature size of Red Lightning, and I ended up buying things on those sites. Mature size of Red Lightning, by the way, is 10-12" high with a 14-16" spread.
Hello Robert! We are sure to show each plant's mature size on all of our plant pages. Head to the more information section and hit the 'details' tab to find extra information such as mature size, sun needs, zone information, and more! Thanks for your feedback, we appreciate it. Happy gardening!
