Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

Say goodbye to your winter blues! With sunny days and warm temperatures on the horizon, we can tell that spring is right around the corner. When you see these flowers, you know spring is in full swing. Here’s a list of our favorite tried-and-true spring-blooming plants to help celebrate the seasonal transition.
I was not sure what I was going to receive because some of the reviews were not great and it is almost time for bleeding hearts to be finished for the season. I was pleasantly surprised. The plants were in great shape. And have now settled in. I’m very happy and would order from here again in a heartbeat. I can’t wait to see them flower next spring.
I ordered five of these “Ruby Gold” Bleeding Hearts last summer. They were very small and faded away completely in the summer heat almost immediately, but this year, all five returned and are growing strong. They bring a lot of light and character to my shade garden. Hang in there and give it time. They are worth it!
Hi KT, thank you for sharing a photo of your Bleeding Hearts with us! We're so happy to hear that they are doing well this year. Happy Gardening!
I wish I had this plant! It’s the reason I placed the whole 2nd order! 🤣
I planted it in a place that gets more shade like I did with my other bleeding hearts...my other bleeding hearts are thriving and getting huge while the ruby gold has died. Hopefully it will grow next year but I wasn't happy with the looks of it when it arrived at my house... It looked droopy and wilting. I would not buy again.
Hello Lisa!
Thanks for taking the time to leave your review, we appreciate it. While we try our best to make sure our plants look in tip top shape when they arrive to you, sometimes your new plants may look a little stressed after their journey to your garden. Usually a little TLC and some water will help them perk right up. It's important to note that they do go dormant from heat so it may just be going dormant. That's totally normal, and it will be back next year. Even though your other ones are growing more vigorously, it will have experienced a lot more heat growing in the greenhouse than an outdoor plant would have. If they don't perk back up, don't hesitate to reach out to us with pictures at claims@greatgardenplants.com We offer a 30 day guarantee on all of our plants and we'll happily replace or refund you for plants that do not survive!
Came beat-up but I trimmed very little for it was little to begin with. Doesn't want to grow either. I feel they shouldn't ship plants so tiny.
