Description
Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

Love hydrangeas!
I have a bunch of Limettas from Great Garden Plants. It is the longest blooming hydrangea in my garden. It thrives in sun or shade, wet or dry. I don't have it on irrigation. It is super low maintenance, fast growing, and performs like a champ no matter what.
I was hesitant to order in June, but the plants came in quickly and are still looking great. Now I’m tempted to order in July!
It has taken off and has doubled in size since being planted. It was a bit small but is doing fine now. I will order from this vendor again. Love that they arrive in containers and not as bare root.
I bought a few dozen of these last year here in zone 7a New York
to line the borders of my long straight driveway. They have grown so lush and beautiful --easily beyond double the size I originally got them. I now purchased a few more to extend the hedges this year. They are everything you want from a perennial...no heavy maintenance, no flopping, beautiful white blooms that turn chartreuse and delicately dry to still provide structure and pretty dry blooms into the fall season. And then the best part--no heavy pruning required! They truly deliver in performance. I highly recommend!
