Description
Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

Regretfully the plant didn't survive the move, was so looking forward to having a beautiful plant, but no such luck.

I ordered four plants this spring and one Fairytail Bride. All plants came well packaged and made the trip quite well. I waited a week to plant as they needed watering. They are now well established. The only complaint I have is the I received Fresca Cascade rather than the cascade that I ordered. I planted it and it did well. However I wanted a white to go within some azaleas in deep shade.
This fairytail bride hydrangea is planted & she seems to love her space. She is very near a flirty girl false hydrangea vine and part of a moon glow bed as entry to secret garden…
Adjacent I have an allium bed I just added a summer love clematis to add even more height in center… these spaces have spectacular colors as both a future day & night visual for my eyes & my visitors!!!
My little plant arrived in good condition.
It was exactly as I expected. I let it rest a couple days, and potted it in a small pot.
It has put on new growth and I’m very excited about having added it to my garden. It’s been really hot lately, so I’ve been keeping it in a mostly shady protected spot. I live growing shrubs from babies, this one will be fun to see grow and develop.
