Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Description Ginger Wine® Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolium) deserves a spot in your garden with bold foliage, soft white flowers, and an appealing habit. This shrub shines in the landscape all season long with orange foliage in spring and burgundy foliage in summer and fall. Ginger Ninebard

I received my Ginger Wine Ninebark today and was shocked when I saw the packaging all crushed. I carefully cut the box open with scissors expecting to see my new plant destroyed. I finally got the plant out of the box and there it was, beautiful and healthy as can be. I only had to cut off one leaf that was hanging by a thread. Thanks to the great containerd the plant was in, my plant made it safely. I'm looking forward to seeing the blooms next year. Thanks Great Garden Plants, you are now my "go to" nursery! Vigorous and colorful baby shrub!

This is my second purchase from GGP. Initially, there was a mix-up and I received the wrong plant. Customer Service was excellent! Told me to keep 'wrong' plant (a lovely reblooming azalea that is thriving) and immediately dispatched the correct shrub. Although these quart sized plants are somewhat small, I have the best luck in transplanting them. Any larger and they seem to suffer more before establishment. Healthy, vigorous root system, packed excellently for shipping. Ginger Wine has settled in easily, putting out new BRIGHT copper-orange foliage without skipping a beat! Looking forward to her future growth.
