Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

These roses have only been in the ground for seven weeks and have grown by several inches and have had several small blooms already. The blooms are still small but so pretty and the fragrance is wonderful! They get morning sun in a hot climate (upper 90s) and afternoon shade. I just wish I had room for more of them.
I will update this next summer- but one of these, all planted together at the same time, is clearly about to buy the farm. Not my usual experience

Vigorous, beautiful, floriferous, self-cleaning and nicely scented if you're weeding nearby. I doubt it'd be great for cutting, as the blooms seem to shatter fast, but it churns out new buds so exuberantly that it looks great all season. And we're talking about an easy-care landscape rose here, not a needy diva tea rose or whatever! I've had passers-by ask specifically what kind it is so they can get one too.
I love it!
I planted it about two weeks ago and I already have roses !!
At Last Rose is one of the most amazing roses I have ever owned. It checks all the boxes for the perfect specimen. The fragrance, color, hardiness are all what make this rose exceptional. I have one and have now ordered one for my daughter too.
