Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:
Unless you are planting in a straight line, as you might for hedges or edging, space your plants in a staggered or zig-zag pattern for a more interesting and naturalistic look:

The plants arrived in very good shape still damp and fully alive. After acclimating, I planted them. We are, and were when I planted them, entering our winter season. Hopefully, they will come out of dormancy and do well next year.
Both plants are doing well as I followed the directions and they seem content where they have been planted.
Arctic Fire® Red Red-Twig Dogwood
I do a lot of ordering online since I'm always looking for more unusual plants for my landscape than what the box stores sell. I tried Great Garden plants this year and I've been more than happy with all the orders I received. The plants are packaged well and are strong healthy plants. I have been surprised by the size of them when they arrive. The 3 Red Twig Dogwoods I ordered were much larger than I expected and very healthy. They have been in the ground a month now and have grown considerably. I can't wait to see the fall color and the winter interest from the red stems. I highly recommend Great Garden plants and have another order pending.
