Soil: Average, medium moisture, well-drained soils. Prefers moist, sandy soils, but has surprisingly good drought tolerance. Drought tolerant in the North; even moisture is required in the South
Light: Tolerates filtered sunlight, but prefers full sun.
Water: Medium -- well drained soil. Can adapt to dry or moist conditions but cannot tolerate standing water.
Spacing: 24-36 inches
Fertilizing: Fertilize at planting time or in early spring with a slow-release product such as Osmocote™, Nutricote™, or Nursery Special™
Winterizing: Appreciates a winter mulch in the northern parts of its growing range.
Maintenance & pruning: Deadhead individual spent flowers and remove spent flowering stems to encourage additional bloom. Once flowering is finished, plants can be cut back to the basal foliage if fresh new growth is desired.
