Soil: Grow in any moist but well-drained soil. Leaf edges will turn brown if exposed to very dry or very hot conditions.
Light: Full sun (6+ hrs/day) to part shade
Space: Min. 4' apart.
Fertilizing: Apply a granular rose or garden fertilizer in early spring if desired. Never fertilize weigela past mid-summer, as this increases likelihood of winter damage to any new growth the plant puts on as a result.
Winterizing: A good 2-3" layer of mulch is recommended.
Maintenance: Weigela bloom on old wood so should only be pruned after their spring bloom. Once plants are mature (after at least 5 years in the ground), you may want to remove a few of the oldest stems each year to keep it producing vigorous young growth. Note: weigela are one of the last shrubs to leaf out in spring, so don't panic if you aren't seeing signs of life even if everything else in your yard has started to grow.
ReviewsWrite a reviewSonic bloom pinkRachel a kibbey | May 26, 2018This plant arrive healthy the soil was wrapped and secured in a 1 pint pot. I planted it immediately. It came with clear and thorough planting instructions. The package came with three layers to protect the plant and was secured well in the package. I plan to order Mich more of these to create a hedge. I had ordered one just to be sure of the quality. 5 stars. Thank you. Rachel of Tennessee/ zone 7
