Forsythia Show Off® Starlet Description

Huge Impact in Small Space.  Masses of energetic blooms from dirt line to tips!

When you start to see the yellow blooms of forsythia, you know spring is around the corner!

Older forms of forsythia get huge - often reaching up to 10 feet high depending on the type.

Growing a little larger than Sugar Baby, this exciting new early blooming shrub is compact and a better fit for most gardens growing 24-36 inches high and wide. Forsythia's trademark is their rich yellow energetic blooms that open up ahead of the foliage for a blazing effect in the early spring garden. This selection delivers more flowers per inch to create an energetic display.

How to Grow

They flower best in sunny locations. Easy to grow. Highly adaptable and versatile, growing in clay or sand and a wide range of ph. Tolerant of urban pollution.  Limited space? Grow them in containers where you can take the whole pot indoors for early forcing if desired.

Pruning

Best to prune after flowering because they bloom on prior years growth. Does not require heaving pruning but a slight shearing keeps them attractive looking in the landscape.

Design

You can easily work Forsythia into a mixed perennial or shrub border.  Along narrow foundation plantings.  Combine with early flowering Hellebores or bulbs for an exciting early season display. Create miniature hedge plantings

Cut Branches

Deal with those grey winter days by cutting branches and bringing them indoors in late winter.  Place them on warm (not hot) water overnight in the garage or cool place and the next day bring them indoors.  Average room temperature between 60-75 degrees.  To speed up the blooms - keep them warmer, to slow down the blooming period, place in a cool spot.
