Invincibelle Limetta® flowers on new wood (growth created in the current season). As a result, these plants flower reliably each year, no matter how cold the winter is. (New wood flowering hydrangeas) can be pruned each spring, just as the new growth begins to emerge. Remove up to one-third of the height each year if desired to encourage vigorous new growth and strong stems.
Hydrangeas enjoy moist but well drained soil and some sun each day. Many people think of hydrangea as shade plants, but they look and flower best with at least 4 hours of sun, ideally in the morning. Hydrangeas have shallow roots so require plenty of water especially as they are getting established in your garden. A 2-3 inch layer of mulch is a useful addition to any planting.
Hydrangeas are continuing to take the flowering shrub world by storm. They are widely adaptable to both clay and sandy soil provided they are given copious amounts of water during the prolonged summer dry spells.

Soil: Any average, well-drained soil will do. Avoid wet conditions. Can tolerate somewhat dry conditions but flowering may be compromised. A good 2-3" layer of shredded bark mulch keeps roots cool and conserves moisture.
Light: Most varieties tolerate full sun in the north, but benefit from afternoon shade. Tolerates full sun only if grown with consistent moisture. In the South, plants require afternoon shade. If plants wilt frequently, that's a good indicator that the spot is a bit too sunny. If flower color is pale, or stems are weak, that indicates the site is a bit too shady.
Water: Water to keep soil moist, but not wet.
Spacing: 4 - 5 ft.
Fertilizing: Fertilize once in spring with a granular fertilizer formulated for roses.
Winterizing: Leave intact over winter and keep 2-3" mulch in place.
Maintenance & pruning: This variety blooms on new wood. In late winter or early spring, cut stems back by about one-third their total height, which builds a strong woody base while also encouraging abundant new growth for lots of flowers and a lush, full look. Young plants may be transplanted when dormant in early spring if desired.
ReviewsWrite a reviewBeautiful plant!Mike Dunham | Jul 3, 2019I ordered this very late in the spring shipping season, at a time when it was really starting to get too warm for safe shipping and planting. Despite my concern, this hydrangea arrived in excellent shape, with only minimal cosmetic damage to a few of the smaller stems. There were several flower buds present upon arrival, which was a nice surprise after ordering and planting bareroot plants from other online sellers. The first flower opened less than two weeks after planting, and now several more are on their way. This is a beautiful plant that arrived in an excellent, healthy state. I will be ordering several additional plants from this company next spring.
