Dianthus 'Firewitch' Description

Dianthus 'Firewitch' is the ultimate in fragrance! Durable, hardy, easy to grow ground cover deserves a spot in your perennial garden.

In late spring, hundreds of shocking magenta pink flowers contrast beautifully against evergreen silvery blue foliage. Flowers will often repeat again later in the summer when the weather turns cool.

This sun plant is a fine addition for your cut flower garden. Highly fragrant blooms last for days all the while adding a natural fragrance to almost any room of your home. You won't believe the powerful, delightful fragrance that comes from these little flowers.

Since the foliage is evergreen, this is an excellent ground cover for the sun perennial garden and a perfect edging plant in front of your perennial border.

We love to pair this fragrant beauty with other evergreen ground covers like low growing sedums. Use as a foreground planting to daylilies, coneflowers, or Knock Out Roses.

Special features: Attracts butterflies, Cold hardy, Cut flower, Deer resistant, Disease resistant, Drought tolerant, Easy dare, Evergreen, Fast growing, Fragrance, Heat tolerant, Pest resistant,

Soil: Neutral to alkaline well drained loam or sand.
Light: Full sun is preferred but will tolerate part shade though the blooms might not be as prolific.
Water: Average water needs. Drought tolerant once established, but should be watered regularly during extended drought conditions.
Spacing: 12 inches
Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, timed release fertilizer in early spring.
Winterizing: Remove all the dead and fallen plant matter so that diseases do not overwinter in it. A four inch mulch layer of straw or pine boughs will help protect the soil temperature, and keep the frost from heaving the roots. Remove the mulch in spring when they begin actively growing again.
Maintenance & pruning: Little to no pruning or maintenance needed. Deadheading is highly recommended to promote a re-flush of flowers. Clumps can be divided every 2 or 3 years to encourage better flower production.

Wow! I was amazed at the size and health of the plants I received. The care and packaging was unbelievable AND free shipping! Fed Ex delivered one box upside down with no issues inside - I think a car could have run over these with minimum damage to plants! My preschooler loved building towers with the inner shipping boxes so you have provided more fun than anticipated for all of us! I am new to mail order nurseries (gardening too) so glad I ordered from you. Will order again and recommend.
