Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

It's a picture-perfect pairing for other springtime favorites, like daffodils, tulips, and ferns. It seems like it’s happy!

I ordered 2 of these and they both are growing and filling out. I transferred both of them to 1 gallon containers and they both had a very good root system. I’m letting them grow a bit until I’m ready to put them in their permanent place in my landscape. They have both put on new growth and I will probably plant them in the next couple of weeks. Being in zone 8b I can plant them whenever I’m ready because the ground is still warm. I hope they bloom next spring so I can see what the little shrub will eventually look like.

Happy shopper!

I ordered several dozen plants from GGP. Delivery was prompt and the plants were all well packaged. Everything looked healthy. They’ve been in the ground about a month and all are doing well.
