Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Description If you want to add a tropical flare to your home garden, we highly recommend adding 'Firestarter' montbretia (Crocosmia) to your perennial collection. This hardy montbretia produces clumps of sword-shaped foliage that adds textural interest from spring to fall, but summer is when this plant shines. Star-shaped flowers cascade out of the foliage with bright yellow and orange petals, rightly earning its other common name of falling stars. Harvest once 50% of the flowers have opened on the desired stem for use as a cut flower.

Montbretia, or falling stars, effortlessly handles heat, humidity, and mild drought, making it reliable and easy to grow. Plus, it's resistant to deer and rabbits. It's an excellent choice for hot borders, near boulders, tucked between shrubs, or containers. When happy, it multiplies very nicely, creating a substantial clump that can be shared with friends or spread around the garden. While it is hardy down to USDA zone 5, this tropical perennial requires extra winter care. Cover your plants with a thick layer of mulch before frost hits to ensure it returns the following year. Firestarter

Unfortunately they didn’t survive but a few days. They were very spindly when they arrived. I was so excited to see them grow. Even made other special garden to put them in. I was just so very sad
