More Information

Description Sedum acre 'Aureum' is a foolproof, sun-loving groundcover. Plant this low-growing evergreen sedum and watch it grow up to 12"+ wide in one season! This fast-growing sedum allows you to transform your landscape in no time. Its light green foliage forms a moss-like carpet that turns a buttery bright yellow in spring, adding a touch of sunshine to your landscape after long winters. Sedum acre 'Aureum' tolerates light foot traffic and looks breathtaking planted between pavers and stepping stones. This plant is tough! Aside from tolerating foot traffic, it also tolerates drought, heat, humidity, and poor soil, making it highly adaptable and virtually maintenance-free! Plant this sedum and sit back and relax while it does all the work for you. Did we mention its small needlelike leaves are weed smothering? This sedum makes the perfect solution for those looking for a low-maintenance addition to their landscape. Details Botanical name: Sedum acre 'Aureum'
Common name: Sedum, stonecrop, gold moss stonecrop
Zone: 3 - 9
Sun exposure: Sun (6+ Hours)
Height x width: 2-3" x 12-18"
Flower color: Yellow
Foliage color: Light green, Yellow
Bloom time:Summer
Features:Winter interest, heat tolerant, ground covers, drought tolerant, container plants, cold tolerant, best for beginners
Uses: Accent, Alpine and rock, Container gardening, Edging, Erosion control or embankment, Ground cover, Massing, Rock garden, Slopes, Small spaces
How To Grow Soil: Needs well-draining soil. Thrives even in sandy to gravelly soils of moderate to low fertility.
Light: Does best in full sun but appreciates some protection from harsh sun and heat exposure in very hot summer regions.
Water: Medium to dry. Considered drought-tolerant once established. Overwatering will impair growth.
Spacing: 1 - 2 ft.
Fertilizing: On average, sedum seldom needed to be fertilized. A handful of all-purpose granular fertilizer sprinkled on the soil each spring is generally all that is needed for poorer soils. If growing in rich soil, it should only be fertilized every other year. Dry granular fertilizers must be watered into the soil.
Winterizing: Does not need mulch in the winter. Remove the debris (such as the remains of showy sedums) from under and around your plants in the late fall and continue to remove any debris as it accumulates. Small animals and bugs may take home in accumulated debris during cold weather.
Maintenance & Pruning: Can cut back in Autumn, after flowering. Divide in spring.

Golden Stonecrop

I bought 6 of these and planted them in full sun and watered them nearly every day since it has been a hot summer. 4 are doing well, one suffered but will survive and one almost died completely. I thought it was totally gone but little sprigs are perking up out of nowhere. Yeah! I mentioned my issue to Great Gardens and they figured it was probably due to the weather but were gracious to offer replacements anyway. I think these will fill in soon and look great.

Looked great out of the box!

I was very impressed with the packaging during shipping. One of my plants was very small compared to the others which was a little bit disappointing. I left him out for a day before planting. It’s been about four days and they’re starting to turn brown, but I’m hoping that’s just the process of them acclimating to their new location. Fingers crossed they take! I’ll will keep you posted on the progress.

A very invasive plant

If success is rapid growth and super spreading, this plant is a success! But after a few years it will have crept into other plants and become a big problem. Be aware. I eventually had to get rid of it all, and even that took 2 or 3 years before no more of it was seen.

Hi J.S., we're sorry that you've had trouble with Golden Stonecrop. It does not appear that you purchased the plant from us. We recommend this plant as a fast-growing ground cover in tough-to-grow areas. Especially in tough to maintain areas. For removal, we recommend digging up sedum down to the roots to unsure they do not grow back. Happy Gardening!

Love it

They came nicely filled in and healthy, easy enough to pop them out of their nursery pots and into my yard. Month later and they are still doing good.
