Plant Spacing

Plant spacing is based on the ultimate width of the plants. This figure is normally given as a range; for example, 3-5’. If you live in a cold climate and/or want plants to fill in more quickly, plan to space at the shorter end of the range. If you live in a warm climate, are on a limited budget, or are willing to wait longer for plants to touch, use the higher end of the range. Using the larger number is recommended when calculating distance from a building or structure. There’s really no such thing as "maximum spacing": if you don’t want your plants to touch, you can space them as far apart as you’d like. All plant spacing is calculated on center, or in other words, the centers of the plants are spaced one half of their eventual width apart:

Description The texture and versatility of Gracillimus Maiden Grass (Miscanthus sinensis) make it an easy choice for any garden! Long, thin green blades sway in the breeze from spring to fall. Purple and copper fans open to spikelets that mature to stunning silvery plumes at the start of fall. Growing 5-7 feet tall, it serves as an excellent hedge plant. You can use them in the back of borders, in drifts, as specimens, or next to water features. Plus, they're durable, so you won't have to worry about drought or deer! Fertilizing: Too much fertilizer can lead to lodging or flopping over. The best time for applying fertilizer, if needed, is in the spring as growth is resuming.
Winterizing: Leave foliage standing throughout winter for visual interest. Substantial clumps tend to flop (or collapse when subjected to heavy winter snows) and often benefit from some support.
Maintenance & pruning: Cut foliage to a 6 to 12-inch-tall mound of stubble in late winter before new shoots appear. Mature clumps of 'Gracillimus' (3-4 years +) produce substantial foliage, which sometimes needs support. Older clumps tend to die in the center leading to an unattractive shape and appearance. Dividing every third year is a safe rule of thumb.

Still alive!

This was my first order from Great Gardens because I couldn’t find plants in my local garden centers to complete my garden plan.. had waited 3 weeks to put 4 plants (including Maiden Grass) in the ground. They’ve been in the ground a week now and they are still alive. The plants were in the house a week and on my patio for 2 weeks where I watered them when they looked dry. I can’t wait to see my garden grow and bloom!

Maiden grass

I bought local before and there were many more blades of grass. These are scrawny. I already have 30 some maiden grass plants. 3rd year for most. They are exploding. Thank you for the effort. Nice info you sent with the plants.
